Day 4 Update
Yee Haw! Only one more day left for District 2 Day Camp in 2007! It has been an amazing week. The staff, den leaders and Scouts have been great and having a blast.
Sadly we were not able to do our BBQ and Webelos Overnighter tonight, but we WILL be making up for that on Friday. We will have our BBQ dinner for lunch followed by some special programs for the kids and then our campfire & closing ceremony at 2 pm. Parents are invited to come for lunch and stay around for the closing ceremony and campfire.
Please remember that we do need help at the end of the day breaking down the camp and packing up the trailer. If everyone pitches in just a little bit of time, we can all be out of there rather quickly! Also please remember to fill out your camp evaluations. Good ones and bad ones, we want them all. The only way that we can make our District Day Camp the best it can be for our boys is by listening to everyones comments.
Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Now it's time to settle down with my pens and start doing all of these awards for the boys! :)

Day 3 Update
WOW! Today had to have been one of the most fantastic days ever for Cub Day Camp. A HUGE thank you to Mr. Rubio and Mr. Scaglione for putting this together. I think everyone had an awesome time, even during the loud "booms". Thanks as always to our Camp Commissioner Chelsea and our awesome Boy Scout staff for helping all day as well.
So now we are down to 2 more days to go. For tomorrow, Thursday, we will be doing our family BBQ and Webelos overnighter. Scouts who are attending either of these will be allowed to stay at the camp after the regular closing at 3 pm. We will have open sessions and just plain ole' free time for the boys to explore the camp. At 6 pm we will serve dinner followed by our 7 pm campfire. After the campfire, the non-campers (Tigers, Wolves, Bears and the siblings to the Webelos) will be heading home while our Webelos enjoy the first Webelos Overnighter at a Cub Day Camp in several years.
HOWEVER, there is one little hitch to all of this. The weather forecast is looking grim for the day and the overnight on Thursday. Obviously safety is of a great concern to us (and all the legal-types...) so we will be monitoring the situation carefully. IF the weather is looking like there is going to be any severe to serious weather during the night, then we will NOT be having our overnighter. This is for the Scouts' safety and to keep them from being scared and miserable and never wanting to camp again. It would be unfortunate if this had to happen, but again, the safety and comfort of our campers (and some of their parents) are of the highest concern to us. This decision will be made by Chris Street and myself sometime around mid-day.
I will have requirement sheets for all of the Den leaders by Friday morning. These will list many of the things that the Scouts have done during the week that they can give to their regular Den leaders towards their rank advancements, beads, belt loops, etc. Our kids did a LOT this week!
As always, please see me with any comments, questions, criticisms or suggestions.

Day 2 Update
Hello Everyone.
Well we survived another day at Camp Estonia. Tomorrow will be a lot of fun as we have our own mini "Police/EMS Camporee". During the day we will have the following:
There is yet another special permission slip that needs to be filled out before the kids can participate fully in the smokehouse provided by the fire department. Some were handed out this afternoon. I've attached it here as well. Any one who does not get permission or does not complete or return the forms by 9 am tomorrow morning (Wednesday) will have to sit out about 20 minutes of the smokehouse event.
By the way, I promise you that next year when we do this (and YES that is already in the works) that we will have this paperwork thing taken care of long in advance.
Please remember that all of the BBQ / Overnighter forms are due back tomorrow. This will allow us to get the proper food for Thursday night.
As always, if you have any comments or questions, please call me at 609-418-1180.
I only have about 30 names on my email list for the 115 youth plus staff which tells me that I'm missing a lot of people with the daily update. Please tell the people in your dens to email me at jopop@crew4696.com with their email address and let them know about this website.
By the way, speaking of the website, what does everyone think of it? Is it useful?

Here are some photos from the first day of camp. If anyone else has any photos that they have taken, please email them to me. Thanks!
Day 1 Update
Well our first day of camp was really good. We actually started on time and ended on time. The weather cooperated and everyone seemed to have a great time. Thanks for all the help.
In case you didn't know, the swimming area has been declared "all swim" which means the entire area is open to anyone, regardless of their swimming test ranking.
Forms for the Family BBQ / Webelos Overnighter are due to the den leaders by Wednesday morning.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, July 17 all parents are requested to stop by the registration table at check in or check out to review and sign a special permission slip regarding a special activity on Wednesday. Any Scout that does not have a signed permission slip will NOT be able to participate in the activity, no exceptions. Trust us, Wednesday will be cool.
The weather report says that rain may be expected. No matter what the rain situation is, the camp will be going on. In any situation involving thunder and lightning, the Scouts will be moved to the dining pavilion or the main building as necessary. Our Camp Director will be paged by a special service should lightning be anywhere in the area. So unless there is a threat of lightning, camp will run rain or shine.
I look forward to a continued great week at Camp Estonia. Please call me if you have any questions, problems, comments or suggestions.

Family BBQ Night / Webelos Overnighter
On Thursday, July 19 we will be having a Family BBQ Night and Webelos Overnighter. What this means is that the Scouts and families who choose to participate will stay at the camp after the official closing at 3 pm. There will be an open range, open waterfront, speedstacks competition, etc. This will be followed by a family BBQ and then an old fashioned Scout campfire where some awards and recognitions will be given along with entertainment.
That part can be attended by everyone. The Scouts at camp all week along with the leaders who are at camp with them can attend for free. Additional family, parents or leaders are $5.00 per person.
After the campfire, the Tigers, Wolves and Bears will head home for the night leaving our brave Webelos and their adult partners to stay for a Webelos overnighter camping experience. Those that stay over will be cooking their breakfast the following morning, campfire style!
The forms for this event are being sent home with the boys on Monday. Of course, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact Mr. Pop or Mr. Street.
